ALCALA, MELANIE and CONSTANTINO, MARTINA ROICE E., Design and Development of Automated Hydroponic System for Indoor Plants
Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Industrial Technology major in
Electronics, Cavite State University Don Severino delas alas Campus, Indang, Cavite.
June 2021. Adviser: Mr. Ronald E. Araño.
This study was conducted from January 2021 to June 2021 at Inocencio, Trece Martires City, Cavite to design and develop an automated hydroponic system for indoor plants. The study is about the automation of the traditional hydroponic system and uses it for indoor planting. Hydroponic is known for growing and planting plants without the use of soils, instead different medium is used in order to grow a plant. Hydroponic is fostering plants without the use of soil, instead it uses water with a nutrient mixture. It is an excellent way to grow plants to their full potential. Currently implementing an aquacultural system requires research and comprehension about the plants to be grown. Different plants require different levels of nutrient solution as well as other parameters. This method will take anyplace from days to weeks. Nowadays, there is an increasing demand for hydroponic, because it can be used in nonconventional locations, like inside the warehouse, backyard and even indoor. A typical hydroponic design, which is Deep Water Culture (DWC) requires a daily potential of hydrogen (pH), water level, electrical conductivity (EC), temperature, and nutrient level measuring and testing.
A system has a design to grow a plant without depending upon the outside environment and doesn't need a daily measuring and testing of the pH, EC, and nutrient level. The study, Automated Hydroponic System used a different type of hydroponic design which is the Nutrient Film Technique, is a based hydroponic framework which the plants are grown on a under controlled environment. The water and the nutrients are mixed in the reservoir as it re-circulates through the water pump continuously. This hydroponic system uses less water and fertilizer compared to the traditional farmng style. This system utilizes the concept of relay, and sensors attached to the microcontroller to ensure the smooth flow of the water.
The system is made automatic using microcontrollers and sensor to lessen the disturbance of the end user. This is designed to improve the reliability of the system which permits it’s monitoring and controlling the system easily. The different sensors connected to the NFT framework helped in getting the basic information of the whole system and helped to measure and monitor the water level, water temperature, humidity, environment temperature, TDS, and light intensity. Once this has been finished, the framework is capable to sustain the boundary and stimulate a flourishing vegetation growth.

|
