ABSTRACT
AUSTRAL, JAIRAH JOY R., PALLERA, ALIAH ANNE M., PANGANIBAN,
ANGELICA M., RUADIL, IVAN PAUL C. Remittance Allocation and Utilization of Overseas Filipino Worker-Families in Selected Areas of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Financial Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. August 2022. Adviser: Ms. Princess M. Feliciano.
The study was conducted from August to November 2021 in the top three areas with the highest number of Overseas Filipino Workers in Cavite which were Bacoor City, Dasmarinas City, and Imus City. Generally, the study aimed to determine the remittance allocation and utilization of Overseas Filipino Worker-Families in selected areas of Cavite. Specifically, the study sought to: (1) determine the socio-economic profile of OFW-families; (2) identify the remittance allocation of OFW-families; (3) identify the level of remittance utilization of the OFW-families; (4) determine if there is a significant difference between the allocation of remittances among OFW-families when they grouped according to their socio-economic profile; (5) determine if there is a significant difference between the utilization of remittances among OFW-families when they grouped according to their SOCiO-economic profile; and (6) determine if there is a significant relationship between the allocation and utilization of remittances of OFW-families.
The participants of the study were recipients of the remittances and the ones who handles and manages the money received. The descriptive, comparative and correlational research designs were applied in the study. The frequency count, mean, percentage, and standard deviation were used to classify and characterize the participants' socio-economic profile. It was revealed that the majority of the participants were young adults with ages 20 to 24, female, single, attained a college-level educational status, with monthly remittance of P 10,001 to P30,000, with three and below dependents, having 4 to 6 household size, and with a permanent type of residential ownership.
The results revealed that the participants highly utilized remittances to pay utility expenses such as electricity, water, and internet bills which means that the participants are fully consuming and utilizing cash remittance on their daily needs or expenses. However, they irregularly utilized cash remittances to pay for credit cards as the result was neutral. Through the use of the five-point Likert Scale, the level of remittance utilization was measured. Overall, the study found out that the participants moderately utilized received remittances for basic needs, education, medical needs, savings, debt payments, investments, and miscellaneous expenses.
With the use of Kruskal-WaIIis H test, One-way ANOVA, and Independent Sample t-test, the findings showed that there is no significant difference between remittance allocation when grouped according to their socio-economic profile except for allocation on basic needs, education, medical needs, miscellaneous expense when grouped according to their monthly remittance; however, allocation on savings, debt payment, and investment when grouped according to their monthly remittance was also found to have no significant difference. Moreover, it was also revealed that there is no significant difference between remittance utilization when grouped according to their socio-economic profile except for civil status.
Using Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient, the study found out that there is a significant relationship between allocation on savings, debt payment, and investment and utilization of remittances among OFW-Families. The higher the amount allocated on savings, debt payment, and investment, the higher the remittance utilization is.
|
