Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. February 2023. Adviser: Mr. Glenn Bryan A. Creencia.<br/>The issue of food safety is of primary importance to all people on a global scale. As countries become more reliant on the accessibility and safety of their food supply, the emphasis on food safety has become increasingly important for people worldwide. This study aimed to examine the bacteriological and parasitological of common food commodities and water sources, as well as the food handling practices of fish and vegetable vendors in the public market in Trece Martires City, Cavite. The study was conducted from September 2022 to November 2022. The study used multiple tube fermentation and sedimentation techniques to examine water samples and food commodities for total coliform, fecal coliform, and helminthic parasites. A survey questionnaire was used to gather information on the demographics and food handling practices of the vendors. The results of the study revealed that there was high level of coliform in the water samples, indicating poor hygiene practices and a potential health risk for the vendors and consumers. Parasitic were prevalent in the samples examined; few parasitic ova and juvenile parasites were observed. The survey results showed that most vendors were women and had a high level of knowledge in keeping their area and equipment clean, as well as properly handling food. The respondents exhibited high knowledge towards attire and equipment, and policy.<br/> |
