Personal, Family characteristics and School Performance of the students -<br/>in the Bridge and Regular High School Program Muntinlupa National High School, NBP Cpd, Población, Muntinlupa City. Banaag. <br/>This study was conducted to compare the personal and family characteristics, and school performance of first year students in the bridge and regular high school program in Muntinlupa National High School. The study also sought to establish the predictors of the school performance of students. in the two programs. Specifically, the research aimed to describe the personal characteristics of the students<br/>in the two programs in terms of gender, age, birth order and study habits; describe the family characteristics of the first year students in the two programs as regards to number of siblings,<br/>educational attainment of parents, occupation of parents, family income, types of dwellings, and types of properties; determine the school performance of the students in the two programs as<br/>regards to high school readiness test, academic performance in English , Science, Math and General Points Average; describe the degree of relationship between the following variables,<br/>personal characteristics and school performance of students in the bridge and regular programs and family characteristics and school performance of the students in the bridge and regular<br/>programs; and determine the degree Of difference between the students in the bridge program and the regular high school program on the following variables: family characteristics, school<br/>performance. Lastly, it sought to determine the predictors of school performance of students in the two curricular programs. The study adopted the descriptive correlational method.<br/>The instruments used in data gathering were questionnaire for students, Study Habits Checklist, Socio Economic Survey Form and form 137. The study was conducted in Muntinlupa National High School, New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) Reservation, Muntinlupa City. The respondents of this study consisted of 323 students in the Bridge Program and 568 students in the Regular High School Program.<br/>Mean, standard deviations, standard error of the means were used to describe the variables. To determine the difference between two independent samples as indicated by the<br/>two groups for each independent variable in terms of the dependent variable t — test was used. Pearson Product Moment of-Correlation was used to determine the relationship between and among variables. Multiple Regression analysis was utilized of finding the predictors of school performance. Majority of students -in the Bridge and Regular Program were female students and<br/>majority of the students belonged to the range of 12=14 years old. With regard to the sibling order, majority of the students in the Bridge Program were middle children and more than one-<br/>third of the students in the regular program also belonged to the same sibling order. The study habits of the students in both programs were found to be good.<br/>As to the number of siblings of the students in the two programs, the students belonged to small family with three children and below. Majority of parents were high school graduates.<br/>Majority of students in both programs had parents whose occupation belonged to the category of unemployed, laborer, and other related work. Majority of the students in the Bridge Program<br/>belonged to a family whose income was P 10,000 and below per month. Whereas a little less than the majority of students in the regular program had a family incomeofP10,000 — 39,000<br/>per month. As to the type of dwelling, majority of students in the Bridge Program owned ordinary houses, while more than one-third of students in the Regular Program owned semi-concrete to<br/>concrete houses. Almost all students in the Bridge Program owned ordinary appliances, while almost 75% of students in the Regular Program owned appliances and the remaining<br/>percentage of students owned vehicles and houses and lot in addition to their appliances. The high school readiness test results indicated that those who passed belonged to<br/>the regular program while the first year and those who failed belonged to the Bridge Program. The academic performance of the students in English, Science, Math and in the GPA in the<br/>Bridge Program was found to be fairly satisfactory whereas student in the Regular Program was satisfactory. Academic performance in English, Science, Math, GPA had no significant relationship<br/>to age, study habits and birth order in the two Programs. Academic performance in English were found to be not significantly related to the number of siblings, educational attainment, occupation of parents, family income, type of dwelling and type of appliances in the Bridge Program. in the Regular Program only the number of siblings found to be highly significant to academic performance in<br/>English. Academic performance in Science was found to have no significant relationship with family characteristics in the Bridge Program, while in the regular program the number of siblings, educational attainment and occupation were found to be significantly related to academic performance in Science. Academic performance in Math .was found to have no significant relationship to family<br/>characteristics in. the Bridge Program whereas only the number of siblings was found to be significantly related to academic performance in Math in the Regular Program. Lastly ,the Grade Point Average was found to have no significant relationship to family characteristics in the Bridge Program and only the educational attainment of parents was found to be significantly related Grade Point Average.<br/><br/>Regarding the difference between personal characteristics of students in the Bridge and Regular Program , age was found highly significant. The study habits reading, listening,<br/>test and gender of the students in the Regular and Bridge Program found to be not significantly different from each other . Finally note taking and reporting as dimension of study habits were<br/>found to be significantly different. The difference between family characteristics and students in the Bridge and Regular Program, specifically the number of siblings, educational attainment of parents, occupational of parents, family income, type of dwelling and type of appliances was found to be highly significantly. The result of high school readiness test and academic performance of students in<br/>English, Science, Math and GPA in the two programs were found to be highly significant. |
