DOROQUEZ, BEA O., ENRIQUEZ, GABRIELLE PRINCESS J., and ISIDRO, JAMES P. Nursing Care Rendered by Emergency Room Nurse During Covid-19
Pandemic as Perceived by the Relatives of Students in College of Nursing Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. February 2023. Adviser: Prof. Caridad Lintao and Prof. Lei Anne B. Rupido
Emergency room nurses are in charge of providing immediate care to persons who are experiencing a medical emergency as a result of disease or injury. They must quickly identify patient needs and prioritize patient treatment based on those needs. The Nursing Care Provided by Emergency Room Nurses during Covid-19 Pandemic, as Perceived by Relatives of Students at Cavite State University's College of Nursing, sought to bridge the gap in the emergency field department to characterize the standard care provided by emergency nurses to patients during the pandemic. It is critical for people of all ages to receive proper care, as anyone can contract minor diseases or injuries on a daily basis, separate from the acquired virus, which necessitates immediate and prioritized care during the pandemic.
The study aimed to determine the nursing care rendered by emergency room nurses during covid-19 pandemic as perceived by the relatives of students in College of Nursing — Cavite State University with the specific problems. Specifically, it aimed to know the significant relationship of the nursing care rendered by emergency room nurses and the perception of student's relatives. The research design used was descriptive quantitative in nature to describe the variables on the data and depict the participants statistically and accurately. The participants were 96 student relatives from the College of Nursing — Cavite State University. A Likert scale survey type of questionnaire was employed to obtain data. The questionnaire was in both Filipino and English, in order for the respondents from both the student's relatives and emergency room nurses to comprehend each statement. Moreover, data was obtained through an online platform, specifically Google Forms.
The weighted mean of relative's perception on the care rendered by an emergency room nurse in terms of knowledge was 4.33, skill was 4.38, and attitude was 3.84. The Pearson R correlation coefficient value of 0.918 indicates that the perceived care of the respondents has a very strong relationship to the rendered care of the nurses and is linear in nature. In terms of respondents' profile (relative) and perceived care, the results were as follows: Pearson R correlation coefficient value of r=0.124 means that the respondents' age and perceived care have no or negligible relationship. Chi-Square test p-value=0.013 means that there is a significant relationship between the respondents' sex to their perceived care. Pearson R Correlation of r=0.361 means that the Educational Attainment has a moderate positive relationship. Pearson R of r= -0.934, indicates that the monthly income and perceived care have a very strong negative relationship.
The research study indicated that the emergency room nurse's knowledge, skills, and attitude may be a factor in the relative's perceived judgment, and satisfaction with the emergency room nurse's rendered care, and there is a significant relationship between nursing care rendered by an emergency room nurse and the respondents perceived rendered care. The findings of this study may aid ED nurses in meeting the needs and expectations of ED patients, while providing high-quality care.
Key Words: Jean Watson's Theory of Caring, Emergency room nurse caring, COVID19 Pandemic
|
