GUEVARRA, NAIZA B., TOLENTINO ROSE ELAINE., VILLAFRANCA, JAVELENE P. “Physical and Psychosocial Impact of Total Hysterectomy among Childless Women in Selected Municipalities of Cavite”. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April, 2013, Adviser: Professor Lenila A. de Vera, RN, MAN, MPH.

The study aimed to determine the physical and psychosocial impacts of total hysterectomy among childless women in Selected municipalities of Cavite. Specifically, this study aims to: (1) determine the demographic profile of childless women who have undergone total hysterectomy; (2) determine the gynaecological history of childless women who have undergone total hysterectomy; (3) determine the physical and psychosocial impacts of total hysterectomy among childless women in selected municipalities of Cavite. Data were analyzed through the use of narrative interpretation.

The study was conducted to 10 childless women from selected municipalities in Cavite namely: Ternate, Maragondon, Naic, Yanza, Indang, Silang and Molino, Cavite, whose age belongs to the reproductive age group (14-45 years old) and who subsequently underwent total hysterectomy. Written questionnaires, oral interview and voice recording were used as instrument for data collection,

The study showed that the highest percentage rate of physical impact of hysterectomy experienced by the childless women was the limitation in lifting heavy objects while the lowest percentage (10%) was perceived as decrease in appetite, weight loss, dizziness and blurring of vision. On the contrary, the psychosocial impact of total hysterectomy among childless women with the highest percentage was the self-acceptance of the reality that they can no longer bear a child while the lowest percentage (10%) was the feeling of being irritable, feeling a sense of isolation and loss of femininity.

Based on the result of the Study, the following are Suggested and or recommended. For the future researchers, they can conduct further studies regarding the relationship between the demographic profile in terms of age, religion and educational attainment to the physical and psychosocial impact of total hysterectomy to childless women through the use of the research too] devised by the researchers. Also, they can determine the relationship between the gynecological history in terms of indication for hysterectomy and length of time post-hysterectomy, to the physical and psychosocial impact of total hysterectomy among childless women through the use of the research tool devised by the researchers. |
