Summary, etc. Espineli, Ricardo P., Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite. THE EFFECT OF VARYING AMOUNTS OF POTASSIUM ON THE YIELD OF MUNGO. Mr. Celso Crucido, Adviser.
The effect of varying amounts of potassium on the yield of mungo was conducted from July 1987 to October 1987 at the experimental field of the Don Severino Agricultural College. This study was conducted to determine the proper amount of potassium that could give the highest yield of mungo.
The land was prepared by three times plowing and harrowing with an interval of two weeks to allow weed seeds to germinate and decompose. The field was subdivided into 16 plots where the different treatments were distributed randomly. Planting was done on July 28, 1987. Four seeds of mungo were planted in each hill at the distance of 25 centimeters between hills, 50 centimeters apart between rows. Muriate of Potash (0-0-60) was applied at different rates such as 200, 300, and 400 kilograms per hectare treatment, respectively.
The fertilizer was applied one to two weeks before the flowering stage of the plant. There were no apparent differences on the growth of the plants both on the early stage and on the maturity. However, Treatment 4 (400 kilograms of Potassium per hectare) was significantly different from the other treatments as to weight of harvested pods and based on the number of pods per plant.
Treatments 3 and 4 (300 and 400 kilograms of Potassium per hectare, respectively) appeared significant over two other treatments. The yield of mungo was greatly affected by the different rates of potassium.
It was observed that linear relationship existed between the yield of mungo and the rate of Muriate of potash. Based on the results of the study, it is concluded that the yield of mungo can be increased by increasing the amount of potassium applied.
