This study was conducted at San Diego Piggery Farm in Naic, Cavite from August 1977 to October 1977. This aimed to determine the management practices employed at the San Diego Piggery Farm to serve as a guide for those who are interested to practice swine raising as a business,<br/><br/>The amount of ~200,000.00 was the initial investment used by the owner, He has been engaged in the business for 5 years, The total land area of the farm where the project was situated was 400 square meters, At the start of the operation the number of initial stocks was 15 heads only. It expanded to 90 heads after one year, The different breeds raised were Large White and Landrace, These breeds came from a well-established piggery project.<br/><br/>The type of the piggery farm was a commercial one, The hogs were marketed to direct buyers, <br/><br/>The farmer instead of mixing his own feeds bought the feeds available for his stocks, The animals were given the feeds three times a day using the hand feeding method,<br/><br/>The hogs were housed in a colony pen. The disinfectant was provided to every entrance of the project in order to prevent the entrance of disease-causing organisms.<br/><br/>Diseases observed were hog cholera, swine plague and foot and mouth disease, In order to prevent the spread of disease the animals were given early immunization,<br/><br/><br/>The waste products were disposed through the running water which was connected to every pen, This facilitates the disposition of waste products.<br/><br/>The piggery had a complete record of the different operations in the project.<br/><br/> |
