This study was conducted in order to determine the management practices employed at Del Rosario's Piggery Project in Kayquit,Indang,Cavite. This might enlighten those farmers who are interested to engage in this swine industry.<br/><br/>The project had a total floor area of 186.43 sq.m. which is about 20 meters away from the barrio's main road. It had an initial capital investment of P3,680.00 which has increased to P100,000.00.<br/><br/>The project had an initial stock of 24, 12 are Landrace and 12 are Hampshire. At present, the project had a total number of 36 Landrace and 35 Hampshire.<br/><br/>Commercial feeds were given to the animals twice a day. Green feeds and afsillin were used as feed supplements.<br/><br/>Gilts were bred at the age of 8 months with the use of natural mating. Owing to the lack of competent technician artificial method was not used,<br/><br/>As part of the care, restricted feeding was observed and daily baths were given to the pigs.<br/><br/>Farrowing sows were transferred to the farrowing pen one and one-half week before it farrowed. Clean and dry beddings with rice stalks were made available. After farrowing, piglets' needle teeth and the navel were cut then treated afterwards. artificial heat was provided.<br/><br/>Pigs intended for fattening were fed with fattener mash.<br/><br/>Close supervision was done to assure the acceptance of the gilts in the service of the boar. Regular feed intake was done to the gilts.<br/><br/>Hogs were usually sold at the age of 8 months to the butchers of Metro Manila.<br/><br/>Record keeping in the farm was not done systematically but it was done haphazardly causing neglect of data about the project operation.<br/> |
