PULIDO, JOEMEL E. Operation of Carwash Business in Selected Towns of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April, 2007. Adviser: Dr. Luzviminda A. Rodrin. <br/>This study was conducted in five selected towns of Cavite, namely: Bacoor, Dasmarinas, Trece Martirez City, Imus, Noveleta and Tanza where most of the carwash services are located. The study aimed to (1) determine the socio-economic characteristics of the carwash service owners in selected towns of Cavite; (2) determine the characteristics of the carwash business in selected towns of Cavite; (3) describe the operations of the carwash business in Cavite; (4) determine the annual operating expense of the carwash business; (5) determine the annual and net income of the carwash business; and (6) identify the problems encountered in the operation of the carwash business. Primary data were obtained from 50 carwash businesses through the aid of a structured questionnaire. <br/>Average, percentage, frequency count and ranking were used in the presentation of data. The average age of carwash owners was 34 years old. Most of them were male, married and have finished at least a college degree. The average number of household was seven. Sixty-four percent of the carwash businesses operated on a sole proprietorship basis while the remaining 36 percent were under partnership. The average year in operation was four years with an average initial capital of PhP99, 080 and an estimated revolving capital of PhP98, 220. The carwash business was operated with an average of 5 helpers/workers and served an average of 15 customers daily. Majority of the carwash owners considered the carwash business as an additional source of income. Majority of the carwash businesses were financed personally by the owners. The services being offered by the carwash business were body washing, tire blacking, vacuuming of upholstery, under washing, engine washing, interior detailing, waxing and buffing. The average number of monthly customers served was 420 customers. In promoting the carwash business, 92 percent of the carwash owners used promotion tools like advertising and sales promotion in the form of discount. <br/>The advertising tools that were used were banner, signboard/billboard, leaflet/brochure and print advertisement. Majority of the business operated as early as six o'clock in the morning until nine o'clock in the evening. Majority of the carwash owners gave price discounts of 10 to 20 percent to regular customers and reported that the supplies that they used in the operation were delivered by the suppliers. The average rate of services being offered by a carwash business depends upon the size of the vehicle being served. Which are categorized into small, medium and large. The materials being used in the operation were all purpose and foaming shampoo, wax, kanebo, rags, tire black, watermark remover, buffing pad and interior and exterior shampoos. The average operating expenses of the carwash business amounted to PhP176, 992 with an average gross return of PhP520, 716. An average net profit of PhP343, 724 was obtained from carwash business. Stiff competition, limited number of customers and lack of capital were the problems encountered by the carwash owners in the operation of the business.<br/> |
