Master’s Thesis Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, March 2007 .Adviser: Dr. Cecilia B. Banaag.<br/><br/>The effectiveness of using experimentation and video-assisted instruction in teaching selected topics in Physics among senior students of Bucal National High School, School Year 2005-2006 was investigated. Specifically, this study sought to determine the following: 1) pre-test and post-test performances of the group of students under the Special Science Curriculum (SSC) and Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) taught using experimentation, 2) pre-test and post-test performances of the group of students under the Special Science and Basic Education Curricula taught using video-assisted instruction; 3) difference between the pre-test performance of the two groups of students under the two curricula; 4) difference between the pre-test and post-test performances of the group of students in each curriculum who were taught using experimentation 5) difference between the pre-test and post-test performances of the group of students in each curriculum who were taught using video-assisted instruction; and 6) difference between the post-test performance of the two groups of students under the two curricula.<br/><br/>Randomized pre-test post-test control group design was used in conducting this study. It involved two groups, both of which were formed by random selection and random assignment. One group which served as the control, was taught using experimentation while the other, which served as the experimental group, was taught<br/>using video-assisted instruction. Both groups were pre-tested and post-tested. <br/><br/>Likewise, the students’ mental abilities were used to establish comparability between the two groups. The samples used in the study involved 80 BNHS students, 40 of which were under the Special Science Curriculum while the other 40 students were under the Basic Education Curriculum.<br/><br/>After analyzing and interpreting the data, the following findings were revealed:<br/>1. The control and experimental groups were initially comparable in achievement level for both the SSC and BEC;<br/><br/>2. A significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test performance was noted in the control and experimental groups in both curricula;<br/><br/>3. In either groups, the students’ achievement measured by their post-test performance does not significantly differ; and<br/><br/>4. The results indicate that the students taught using experimentation performed just as well as those taught using video-assisted instruction. |
