DE LEON, PRINCESS DIANA T. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2007. CORRELATION OF SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF LESS THAN 24-HOUR EGGS AND HATCHABILITY RATE. Adviser: Louella Maria A. Custodio, DVM.
The study was conducted to determine the relationship of specific gravity of eggs and hatchability rate. A total of 500 randomly selected hatching eggs of less than 24- hours from a hubbard strain, 34 weeks and four days old breeder flock was used. Specific gravity of eggs was determined by soaking the eggs in a series of salt solutions. The egg samples were divided into three groups according to their specific gravities. The hatchability rate for each group and for the total egg samples was computed. The group having the highest specific gravity and most number of egg samples (T3 = >1.085) obtained the highest hatchability rate (91.03) while the group with the least number of egg samples and the lowest specific gravity (Ti = 5.1.080) obtained the lowest hatchability rate (83.08). A chi-square value of 3.757 was computed at 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed that there is no significant difference between the hatchability of eggs with different specific gravities. Therefore specific gravity is not a good factor in estimating the hatchability of eggs.
|
