March 2008, Adviser: Nenita Panaligan,<br/><br/>This study was conducted to determine the level of anxiety among family members of patient confined in Intensive Care Unit in selected secondary hospitals in Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to document the profile of the respondents based on age, gender, educational attainment monthly income, length of hospitalisation and relation to patient; to identify the level of anxiety among family members of patients confined in Intensive Care Unit in terms of emotional, financial, psychological and social aspect; describe the significant relation of age, gender, educational attainment, monthly income, relationship and length of patients hospitalization to the level of anxiety among family members of patients confined in intensive care unit. The study was conducted from November 24 to December 30, 2007.<br/><br/>The study used the descriptive method. The respondents of the study were composed of one hundred (100) family members of patients confined in Intensive Care Unit in selected secondary hospital in Cavite The research utilized a self- administered questionnaire in the form of a checklist. The questionnaire was adopted from (Delson, 1997), and modified by the researchers.<br/><br/>The main statistical tools used in this study are percentage, mean, spearman rank, point biserial, and chi-square test.<br/><br/>The result showed, in terms of age, most of the respondents were in 20 to 25 age group. They were composed of 24 percent of the total respondents. Most of the respondents were male and composed 52 percent of the total population. Majority of respondents were husband/wife of the patient and composed of 22 percent of the total population according to the length of stay. Thirty nine or 39 percent have been in the Intensive care Unit for three days and below. Thirty one or 31 percent of the respondents belong to the below Php 10,000 monthly income range. In terms of educational attainment, forty or 40 percent were at the college level.<br/><br/>The anxiety levels of respondents had a mean of 2.94 which describes a moderate level of anxiety. There is no significant relation between age, gender, relation to patient, educational attainment, family income and length of stay in Intensive Care Unit on the levels of anxiety among family members of patient confined in Intensive Care Unit in terms of emotional, financial, psychological status. However, there is a significant relation in educational attainment and anxiety level of patients confined in intensive care unit.<br/><br/><br/> |
