DALAO, MA. KRYSTEL E. AND ANGELI N. EVANGELISTA. The Effects of Physiological and Psychological Stressors in the Battery Examination of the Second Year Nursing Students Batch 2009 of Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2008. Adviser: Mrs. Vina V. Velasco.
This study was conducted to reveal the stress levels of the second year nursing students of Cavite State University Batch 2009 in taking the Battery Examination. Specifically, the study aimed to identify the level of physiological stressors of students: before, during and after taking the examination; to determine the level of psychological stressors of the students: before, during and after the exam; to find out if there is a significant difference between the levels of the physiological and the psychological stressors; to find out if there is a significant difference between the levels of physiological and psychological stressors between the male and female examinees; and to identify if there is significant relationship between the physiological and psychological stressors and the examinees' performance in the battery examination. The study utilized a descriptive design to describe the level of stressors among the examinees. A total of 177 qualified second year nursing students of the Cavite State University batch 2009 served as the respondents of the study. A modified questionnaire was formulated to serve as the research material to be answered by the respondents. Frequency counts, mean, range, chi-square, Pearson correlations were used to present the descriptive part of the study. Findings of the study revealed that the respondents experience the same stressors: physiological and psychological. As to the difference between the levels of physiological and psychological stressors between the male and female examinees, results indicate that before, during and after the exam, the stress levels were significantly different, whether physiological or psychological. Also, the physiological stress level before the students took the battery exam is significantly related to the result of the battery exam in all the three subjects: Anatomy and Physiology, Bioethics and Primary Health Care; while the stress levels felt by the students during and after the battery exam was not significantly related to the performance in all the three subjects. On the other hand, the psychological stress levels of the students were significantly related to their performance in the exam in the subjects Anatomy and Physiology and Bioethics; but not significantly related to the subject, Primary Health Care. The stress level of the students during the battery exam has no significant relation to the result of the three subjects, while their psychological stress level felt by the student after the exam has no significant relation to their performance in the subjects, Anatomy and Physiology and Bioethics, but is significantly related to the subject Primary Health Care.
|
