Corpuz. <br/>The study was conducted to determine the relationship of financial performances of companies listed in the Philippine Rating Services Corporation (PhilRatings) with their credit ratings from the year 2007 to 2011. Specifically, it aimed to: determine the credit ratings of companies listed in the PhilRatings; describe their business characteristics in terms of capitalization, equity participation, and years of operation; determine their financial performances regarding liquidity, profitability, and solvency; determine the relationship of business characteristics to credit ratings; and lastly, to determine the relationship of financial performances of companies listed in PhilRatings to their credit ratings. <br/>Companies listed in the PhilRatings with continuous ratings from 2007 to 2011 were covered in the study and their credit ratings were also obtained therefrom. The General Information Sheets (GIS) and Audited Financial Statements (AFS) were obtained from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This was a descriptive correlation study based on secondary data. Statistical tools such as mean, standard deviation, percentage, and frequency count were employed in the study. Financial tools such as liquidity, profitability, and solvency ratios were used to describe and evaluate the financial performances of companies listed in the PhilRatings, and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) F-Test was also used due to its usefulness in understanding the relationship of 'a categorical dependent variable with a metric independent variable. Tables were used in this study as visual representation of the collected data for credit rating of companies listed in PhilRatings and other relevant information. The results confirmed that there was significant relationship between business characteristics such as capitalization and equity participation to the companies' credit ratings while the years of operation proved insignificant. This study also proved that credit ratings do have relationship with the financial performances such as liquidity, profitability, and solvency. However, liquidity's acid test ratio and solvency's debt ratio were determined insignificant. The data results also reflected the degree of relationship between business characteristics and financial performance to the credit ratings and found out that the businesses' local equity participation and financial performance of equity ratio are major determinants of the credit ratings given by PhilRatings. <br/><br/> |
