Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Crop Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2013. Adviser: Prof. Regina M. Nosa.<br/><br/>The farm practice was conducted at Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit No. IV-A Southern Tagalog Integrated Agricultural Research Center (DA-STIARC) located at Maraouy, Lipa City from November 12, 2012 to February 15, 2013 for 480 hours. The students were assigned and executed trainings in one station of DA- STIARC, the Lipa Agricultural Experiment Station (LAES). This is a research station for upland development zone that comprises of different sections. The Crop Research and Development Section which includes culture and management, crop protection, farming systems and post-harvest. Other section is Support Services and Technical Unit where germplasm conservation and maintenance, multiplication and distribution, corn production and maintenance of foundation groves and orchard. This section has facilities like plant nursery (2,500 m’), screen houses and tissue culture laboratory where this internship had been executed.<br/><br/>During the farm practice, students were exposed in different hands-on activities including plant nursery management practices of different fruits and plantation crops seedlings such as avocado, chico, coffee, dragon fruit, durian, jackfruit, lanzones, mango, pili nut, rambutan, soursop and sugar apple. Nursery management practices for embryo cultured macapuno plantlets were also performed. Other activities such as macapuno embryo culture and Global Positioning System tracking were also experienced.<br/><br/>The farm practice opened a venue for students to experience hands-on activities regarding plant nursery management practices. It allowed students to explore with their technical knowledge learned at school and applied it practically in their field of endeavour. Farm practice served the students to give opportunity to acquire more knowledge and skills not just in nursery management practices but also micro propagation techniques that widen their knowledge and skills regarding latest trend in Philippine agriculture.<br/> |
