ROLLE, LA LAINE C.. Socio-Economic Relations of Switzerland with the Philippines. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in International Studies. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. Agdalpen.<br/><br/>The study was conducted to: (1) identify the trade and investment agreements between the Philippines and Switzerland ; (2) describe the status of the trade and investment relations between the Philippines and Switzerland in terms of (a) imports, (b) exports, (c) trade balance, and (d) approved foreign investments; (3) identify the Swiss companies in the Philippines and (4) identify the social and economic contributions of the Swiss companies to the Philippines in terms of employment and corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.<br/><br/>This is a descriptive study wherein the development on trade and investment relations between the Philippines and Switzerland from 2005 to 2012 was determined. The Swiss companies operating in the Philippines were identified and their corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. Relevant data were gathered through research from different government agencies, official websites, public libraries and university libraries.<br/><br/>There were two agreements between the Republic of the Philippines and Swiss Confederation. These were (1) Agreement between the Swiss Confederation and the<br/>Republic of the Philippines on the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments signed in Manila on 31 March 1997, and (2) the Convention between the Republic of the Philippines and the Swiss Confederation for the avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income signed in Manila on 24 June 1998.<br/><br/>Trading relations of Switzerland and the Philippines is important for the both party and they are both able to provide the goods that are unavailable on their country.<br/><br/>There were about 60 Swiss companies actively operating in the Philippines. The top five Swiss companies in the Philippines include; (1) Nestlé Philippines Inc., (2) Holcim Philippines Inc., (3) Diethelm Keller Siber-Hegner, (4) Roche Philippines and (5) Novartis Healthcare Philippines. In terms of employment, Swiss companies in the<br/>Philippines employs more around 12, 000 people. The Swiss companies maintain high standard. The corporate social responsibilities of the Swiss companies in the Philippines vary from the type of their industries.<br/> |
