PENUS, ANGELICA T. Campus Climate, College Adjustment, and Academic Success of First Year and Second Year Students at Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University. April 2011. Adviser: Dr. Cecilia B. Banaag.
This study determined the relationship of campus climate, college adjustment, and academic success of first year and second year students at Cavite State University. Specifically, it aimed to: (1) determine the perception of first year and second year students about campus climate; (2) determine the college adjustment level of first year and second year students; (3) determine the academic success of first year and second year students; (4) determine the difference between first year and second students in terms of their perceptions of campus climate, college adjustment, and academic success), and (5) determine the relationship between campus climate and college adjustment level; campus climate and academic success, and college adjustment and academic success. Descriptive comparative correlational method of research was used to analyze the relationship and difference between the independent and dependent variables while cluster sampling was employed to select the respondents. A total of 370 first year and second year students of Cavite State University in Indang, Cavite acted as participants of the study. A validated Campus Climate Scale was administered to determine the perception of students about campus climate. The validated College Adjustment Test was utilized to determine the college adjustment level of first year and second year students. The Grade Point Average (GPA) of the respondents for the first semester of AY 2010- 2011 was used to determine their academic success. The study revealed that the first year and second year students perceived that there was a climate of trust and respect in the campus; and that it was safe and less discriminating. Similarly, both groups of students had high college adjustment levels and good academic performance. Furthermore, it was found that the climate of trust and respect, consideration to leave the school, and being harassed/discriminated were significantly related to college adjustment. However, college adjustment was found not to be significantly related to academic success
|
