LOPEZ, VON PATRICK V. Yearly and Quarterly Production Performance of Selected Contract Grower Broiler Farms in Cavite in relation to Amount of Rainfall and Temperature, 2010-2012. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Animal Health and Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2013. Adviser: Mr. Alvin William Alvarez.
A study was undertaken to examine the yearly and quarterly production performance of selected broiler contract grower farms in Cavite in relation to amount of rainfall and temperature from 2010 to 2012. F-test was used to determine the significant differences in production performance parameters of contract grower broiler farms between years, between quarters and between quarters and years. Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was applied to determine whether the means differ significantly only when the result of F-test is significant. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to establish the relationship between meteorological data and production performance. Harvestable age for the three year period was consistent at 35 days. The FCR was consistent from year to year while harvest recovery rate was deteriorating from 2010-2012. Despite the declining trend in the average live weight and Production efficiency factor of broiler farms from year to year, it still attained the acceptable live weight for broilers and PEF units, respectively. Mortality rate of contract grower broiler farms was increasing from year to year. The first quarter of each year consistently showed the best production performance in terms of all production parameters measured while the third quarter of each year recorded the poorest production performance of selected contract grower broiler farm in Cavite. The first quarter of 2010 recorded the best production performance of selected contract grower broiler farms in Cavite in terms of HR, mortality and PEF while the third quarter of 2012 registered the poorest production performance using the same parameters. Evidence suggests that higher amount of rainfall lowered the ALW, production cycles and PEF of contract grower broiler farms. On the other hand, the amount of rainfall is positively related to FCR and mortality rate. On the other hand, the temperature during the period was negatively correlated with ALW, production cycles and PEF. This indicates that high temperature would negatively affect the production performance of selected broiler farms in terms of ALW, production cycles and PEF while low temperature would positively affect these production performance parameters. Conversely, FCR and mortality rate were positively correlated with the corresponding temperature during the period covered. This means that higher FCR and mortality rate would be obtained by selected contract grower broiler farms when the temperature is high and lower when the temperature is low.
|
