Applied Research III (General Science Curriculum) Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. “PRODUCTION OF SUTURE MATERIAL FROM PAPAYA FIBERS” Thesis Advisers: Prof. Erano Esguerra Prof. Dulce L. Ramos<br/><br/>The production of the suture material from different parts of papaya plant was conducted in the Fiber technology and Utilization Division in Quezon City while the testing of the produced suture material was conducted in the Fiber Industry Development Authority at Tagaytay City from December 2002 to January 2003. This aimed to produce suture material from papaya fibers. The petioles, stem and leaves were collected from the same mature papaya plant. The produced suture materials were subjected to a test in terms of diameter, weight and tensile strength. Completely Randomized Design was used in the study. There were three treatments with three replications that were used in the study. Each treatment comes from the different parts of the papaya plant.<br/><br/>The treatments used were To — control (commercial non-absorbable suture or silk), T; — fibers from petiole, T2 — fibers from stem and T3 — fibers from leaves.<br/><br/>Results showed that fibers could not be produced from papaya petiole and leaves. Tests revealed that fibers from papaya stem were thin in diameter, heavy and weak in s of tensile strength. There was a4 significant difference between samples from term: papaya stem and commercial non-absorbable ones in terms of their physical properties.<br/><br/><br/> |
