Summary, etc. ARENAS, PAUL ANGELO and DE TORRES, EMARIE D. Awareness and Adaptation to Climate Change of Farmers in Selected Upland Areas of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2015. Adviser: Dr. Nelia C. Cresino.

A study was conducted to determine the awareness and adaptation to climate change of farmers in selected upland areas of Cavite, namely: Mendez, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Alfonso, and Indang in Cavite from November 2014 to January 2015. Data used in the study were obtained through personal interview with the 200 farmers with the aid of an interview schedule. Frequency counts, mean, percentage, ranking, cost and return analysis, and Likert-scale were used to analyze the data gathered.

The results showed that the majority of the participants were in the middle age, male married, high school graduate, natives from Cavite, had farming as their major source of income, and cultivated a small farm size. The major crops grown in the farm were banana, coffee, corn, coconut, black pepper, jackfruit, root crops, and vegetables while carabao, cow, chickens, horse, pigs, goats, ducks, and rabbit were the major animals raised by farmers.

The concept or understanding of farmers on climate change was limited to abnormal weather condition; global warming; causes diseases, deaths and other bad effects to plants, animals and people; and caused by human activities.

The participants from upland areas of Cavite were moderately aware on the causes and very much aware on the effects of climate change. The major source of information about climate change was television, and they already experienced the effects of climate change. Climatic change greatly affects both farms and farmers. In order adopt to the effects of climate change, the farmers practice the adjust time of planting, mulching/composting, prepare for an early cropping, livestock management, etc.

The farmers encountered problems in the adoption to climate change like lack of information/awareness about adaptation measures, poor health status of farmers, and inaccessibility to water supply.
