SIERRA, DANEL G. Development and Evaluation of Biogas Scrubber. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2015. Adviser: Engr. Jaime Q. Dilidili. <br/>The study was conducted from July 2014 to February 2015 to develop and evaluate a biogas scrubber. Specifically, the study aimed to: 1) construct and install biogas scrubber in a biogas plant; 2) determine the biogas quality before and after scrubbing; 3) evaluate the scrubbing efficiency after installation of biogas, and; 4) conduct a cost analysis for the scrubber. The biogas scrubber was constructed with four filters which include the condenser, calcium hydroxide filter, iron filings, and charcoal filter. Drums with 100 L (30 gal) capacity was used on the first and second filter while 26.5 L (7 gal) drum was used for the third and fourth filter. PVC pipes and fittings with 3/4" diameter were used in interconnecting the filters. The gas quality was measured with the used of gas analyzer and thermometer. The data recorded was the gas quality from ten-day observation. The increase in methane content of the filters had mean increase of 9.9% while the amount of carbon dioxide removed by the filter had a total mean of 12.7%. The charcoal filter had contributed significantly on carbon dioxide removal. Hydrogen sulfide removed by the filter had a total mean of 2 208.5 ppm. The average hydrogen sulfide removal rate was 97.6 percent. The calcium hydroxide filter had contributed significantly on removal of hydrogen sulfide. The temperature reduced by the scrubber had a total mean of 3.5 °C The overall efficiency of the filter in terms of carbon dioxide removal had a mean of 35.1%. The hydrogen sulfide removal rate had a mean of 97.6%. The overall temperature reduction efficiency was 11.9% mean.<br/> |
