JONNEL P. ANDAYA., ARIANE JOY S. CANTILERO., CLAIDEE R. DILOY., KRISTINE ANN J. NAZARENO., AND JAIA MAE V. PANGANIBAN., Assessment of Vitamin a levels among well-children ages 6-12 years old in Indang, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. October 2016. Adviser: Dr. Hosea dl. Matel.

The study entitled "Assessment of Vitamin A levels among well-children ages 6-12 years old in Indang, Cavite" was conducted from October 2015 to March 2016. Generally, this study was conducted to determine the level of Vitamin A in selected 6-12 years old children.Specifically, the study aimed to:(a) determine the demographic profile of children ages 6 to 12 years old in Indang, Cavite; in terms of a) Biographical Data, b) General State of Health, c) Medical History; (b) determine the level of Vitamin A of children ages 6 to 12 years old in Indang, Cavite based on their dietary intake; and (c) determine the level of vitamin A among children ages 6 to 12 years old in Indang, Cavite using High Performance Liquid Chromatography. The researchers provided survey forms to determine the demographic profile of the respondents. Three-day diet recall forms were given to assess the respondents' diet intake by a licensed dietician. Consent and assent forms were provided as well. All of these were given to the guardians prior to blood collection. Blood samples were collected early in the morning (9:00 am to 12 pm) after breakfast from healthy non-fasting volunteer children. Blood samples were collected in three 3 mL evacuated tubes for each respondent. After the extraction, a debriefing session was conducted to assure the safety and well-being of the respondents by assessing the physical and emotional state of the patient.

Among the 21 children recruited as subjects, three of them did not participate in the DOH program for vitamin A. Based on the result from FNRI, none of them were found to be deficient on Vitamin A. From the 21 subjects, two were found to have high vitamin A levels: greater than 50 i.tg/dL. Based on the result assessed by the licensed dietician, it showed that based on their dietary intake, respondents 6, 10, 17 and 18 have excess vitamin A levels. Respondents 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 have adequate vitamin A levels. Lastly, subjects 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 have inadequate vitamin A levels.
|
