Summary, etc. DAMAYO, JONATHAN LYOD A. and VIDALLON, NIKKO S. Solid Waste Management of Selected Manufacturing Companies in First Cavite Industrial Estate. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management major in Operations Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Engr. Gilberto S. David.

The study was conducted to determine the solid waste management practices of selected manufacturing companies in First Cavite Industrial Estate. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the business profiles of the manufacturing companies, the types of solid waste that the companies generate, the volume of solid wastes generated daily, the solid waste management practices, the policies, procedures, and regulations, the waste reduction strategies and the problems encountered by the manufacturing companies on solid waste management. Descriptive statistical tools such as frequency counts, mean, rank, percentage and standard deviations were used to answer the objectives of the study. This study utilized primary data that were gathered from the identified participants which were mostly pollution control officers. There were a total of 30-participant companies in the study. Based on the result, out of 30-participant companies, 23 percent belonged to the electronics industry, 50 percent of the participants were fully operation for 20-24 hours a day and 67 percent are pollution control officers (PCOs) who managed the solid waste of selected manufacturing companies. Non-biodegradable wastes were generated by almost all manufacturing companies, 77 percent generated 50 kilograms (or less) of non- biodegradables a day.

Most of the participants (97%) indicated that they were storing solid waste within the company premises. Office staffs were responsible in ensuring that proper waste storage and collection was adhered. Garbage bags were used to efficiently manage and store generated wastes on a weekly basis. However, 97 percent of the participants were dependent on private contractors in terms of collection and transportation of solid wastes. However, all of the manufacturing companies revealed that they were employing waste reduction strategies such as reusing products and materials, decreasing consumption and reducing the resources used to make and market products.
