Undergraduate thesis. Bachelor of Science in International Studies major in European Studies. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. December 2016. Adviser: Dr. Marietta C. Descriptive-correlation design was used in this study. The participants were the 200 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling from the four colleges of Cavite State University. The data were analyzed using the frequency count, percentage, mean, standard deviation, weighted arithmetic mean, and Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient. The mean age of the participants was 19 years, most of them were female and in their second and third years of study. Among the -seven social media platforms used, Facebook was on top followed by YouTube, Google+, Instagram, and Twitter. Only few used Pinterest and Tumblr. The average number of platform used was four. The media usage was almost every day with a mean of 5 hours and 41 minutes per day, usually done at home, both in the morning and afternoon, largely through mobile phone and laptop. Eighty one percent of the participants had 7-8 purposes for their social media usage, with a mean of seven while for the contents searched, 86 percent looked for 7-10 topics with an average of nine. Each platform was used for different purposes and contents. Participants were extreme users in terms of purpose and content; moderate users for the time spent; and light users for the platform used. In general, participants were moderate users of social media. Knowledge on HIV, poverty, corruption, climate change and Islamic State determined the knowledge level of the participants on global issues. The participants' knowledge level in all these areas was knowledgeable. In general, the participants had knowledgeable level of knowledge on global issues. The participants' social media user type was significantly related to their knowledge level on HIV, poverty, climate change and Islamic State. Only knowledge level on common was not significantly related to the social media user type.
