Abstract: BALINA, MARIA CAROLINA RAMOS. Impact Assessment on the Tutorial Programs in Mathematics of the Department of Physical Sciences. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics with specialization in Statistics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2015. Adviser: Mrs. Ma. Corazon V. Herrera. This study determined the effects of the tutorial programs in Mathematics of the Department of Physical Sciences (DPS) to the students at Perpetual Cavite Institute (PCI) for s.Y. 2011-2012 and Daine Western Cavite Institute (DWCI) for S.Y. 2013-2014. This study specifically aimed to determine the academic performance of the participants fromPCI and DWCI before and after the tutorial; determine the attitude of the participants towards mathematics after the tutorial; determine the significant difference on the academic performance of the participants before and after the tutorial; and ascertain the relationship between the participants' attitude towards mathematics and their academic performance after the tutorial program. A descriptive-correlational method of research was used in the study. The data needed for this study were gathered by means of questionnaire adopted by the Department of Physical Science and given through request letter to the principal. These were administered to the students at Daine Western Cavite Institute and Perpetual Cavite Institute who participated in the tutorial program. The variables under consideration are the academic performance of the participants before and after the tutorial and students' attitude towards mathematics after the tutorial program. Paired-sample I-test and Wilcoxon signed rank test were used to determine the significant difference between the academic performance of the participants from PCI and DWCI, respectively, before and after the tutorial program. Pearson Moment Correlation was used to determine the relationship of students' academic performance and their attitude towards mathematics after the tutorial. Based on the result, female had better academic performance in Mathematics before and after the tutorial in DWCI. The academic performance in Mathematics of the students from DWCI decreased after the tutorial, thus, tutorial program in Mathematics of the DPS had no positive effect. Female respondents performed better than male before the tutorial in PCI. After the tutorial in PCI, male performed better than female. Unlike in DWCI, the academic performance of the students in PCI increased after the tutorial program, thus, the program was effective in improving the students' academic performance in Mathematics. Attitude of the respondents towards Mathematics after tutorial was found to be positive. It means that after the tutorial, students have favorable attitude towards Math. But it has no relationship to the academic performance of the students after the tutorial program. Finally, based upon the results of the study, it was recommended that the Department of Physical Sciences and the BS Applied Mathematics students who will serve as tutors must make the topics clearer and easy to understand. Attitude of the students towards mathematics before the tutorial program should be consider determining the effects after the tutorial programs.
