Abstract: SANTOS IV, JOSE D. Status of Land Use in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Management major in Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2010. Adviser: Prof. Roderick M. Rupido. A study was conducted to assess the status of land use in Cavite. Specifically, the study determined the land use in Cavite as to agricultural, residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, agro-industrial functional, and special use; determined the relationship between population and land use of the municipalities and cities; and compared the land use of municipalities and cities by income classification. A total of 20 municipalities and three cities were covered in this study. Secondary data on land use of different municipalities and cities in Cavite were collected from the records of Municipal/City Planning and Development offices in Cavite as well as from the Cavite Provincial Planning and Development Office in Trece Martires City. Descriptive statistics were used to present the income classification of different mtlnicipalities and cities in Cavite and the land use in Cavite. Spearman correlation was used to determine the relationship between the city or municipality's population and land use of different cities and municipalities in Cavite. On the other hand, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to determine the differences in land use of municipalities and cities when grouped by income classification. Of Cavite's total land area, 39.22 percent was used for agricultural purposes indicating that the province is still an agricultural province composed of both rural and urban areas. The municipalities of Amadeo and Alfonso had the biggest portions of land used in agriculture. Except the municipality of Silang, land use in first class municipalities was concentrated on residential and industrial purpose. This was due to the profound social changes resulting from the recent influx of migrants to expanding villages in Cavite, most of whom have arrived to work in the emerging local industrial sector. This was particularly true in areas with industrial zones and near Metro Manila such as Bacoor, Carmona, Dasmarifias, General Trias, Imus, and Tanza. Test statistics revealed a positive correlation between population and industrial land use. This suggests that population increases along with industrialization. Municipalities and cities using large portions of land for industrial purpose resulted to the influx of migrants to the area thereby increasing population. Municipalities and cities with existing industrial establishments were mostly classified as first class municipalities. This showed that industries were providers of huge income for municipalities and cities in Cavite.
