Abstract: ASTUDILLO, ALAINE VILLARANTE. Remittance Management of Households in Selected Towns of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics major in Business Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, November 2010. Adviser Ms. Ma. Soledad M. Lising. The study was conducted to determine the remittance management of households in selected towns of Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to: determine the demographic profile of the OFW member of the family, determine the relationship between demographic profile of the OFW member and their remittances, determine the different sources of income of the households including remittances, determine how do respondents manage their overall income such as remittances, income from employment, business or investments and others, determine the consumption and savings function that will represent the consumption and savings pattern of respondents and determine the problems encountered by households in managing their income. A total of 150 respondents from Dasmarinas Bacoor, Imus, General Trias and Tanza were selected using quota sampling. They were interviewed to gather the needed information from July to August 2010. Data were analyzed using frequency count, mean, Percentage, range and rank. Chi-square test was used to determine the relationship between demographic profile of the OFW and remittances. Simple linear regression was used to determine the consumption and savings function of the households. Findings revealed that the average age of the OFW was 36. Majority of OFW were male, married and obtained college degree. Majority of them were engaged in service works and working in developing countries. Monthly remittances of the OFW ranged from PhP4,000-PhP45,000 with an average remittances of PhP15,503.33. Remittances were found to have significant relationship with age, educational attainment, nature of work and number of years working abroad. Households allocate bigger part of their remittances in food and education. Monthly savings of the households ranged from PhP500-PhP20,000 with an average of PhP1,500.67. Majority of the households save money in banks for financial security. It was also found out that as income increases by one peso, consumption also increases by PhP.795 and savings by PhP.205, which indicates that as income increases majority of households spend it rather that saving the money. Increasing cost of all commodities was found to be the major problem encountered by household in managing remittances.
