Abstract: PULIDO, RAYMUND JR. P. and SUDARIO, CARMELLA DAWN B. Factors Associated with HIV Occurrence among Young Adult in Selected Cities in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Cavite State University. April 2015. Adviser Nenita B. Panaligan. This study was conducted to determine the factors associated with the occurrence of HIV infection among young adults in selected cities in Cavite specifically in Bacoor City, Dasmarinas City, and in Imus City. It also determine the distribution of the demographic profile of the respondents, this study also found out the percentage of the high risk group and the relationship between the risky behavior and the demographic profile of the respondents. Also this study conducted a free HIV screening among the respondents to test the occurrence of HIV infection among the young adult in the said cities. The study utilized a questionnaire developed by the Department of Health - National Epidemiological Council, although some of the questionnaire were adjusted to suit the problem study. Moreover, the questionnaire has undergone an ethical review and was approved by the technical committee. Data gathered were tallied, interpreted, and statistically analyzed. Frequency and percentage were used to present the demographic profile of the respondents, as well as the factors that have been associated with the occurrence of HIV infection. Point Biserial Correlation was used to determine if there is a significant relationship between the risky behavior that have been associated with HIV occurrence and the demographic profile of the respondents. This study reveals that multiple sex partner is the leading high risk factor that is associated with HIV prevalence in the city of Dasmarinas, Imus, and Bacoor. Also homogeneous relationship is of major type of sex relationship among the respondents, thus infections among youth occur on gay and bisexual males. Having a history or with Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) is also evident but with minimal prevalence. Having a STD is more evident on males and young adults. Thus having multiple sex partner is also correlated with having STD due to the fact that having more than one sexual partner is directly proportional to the acquisition of STD. Multiple sex partner is the leading high risk factor that is associated with HIV prevalence in the city of Dasmarinas, Imus, and Bacoor. Also homogeneous relationship is of major type of sex relationship among the respondents, thus infections among youth occur on gay and bisexual males. Injecting drug without doctor's advice is also evident among the selected cities of Cavite. However, the said factor has only minimal prevalence among respondents. Illegal use of intravenous drugs is evident among young professionals. Having been infected with HIV through utero-placental route, having a history of surgery, and blood transfusion has no correlation with the socio-demographic profile of the respondents as to the prevalence of HIV, this is due to the fact that the said factors above cannot be influenced by the socio-demographic profile of the respondents. Majority of the high risk group comes from Bacoor, followed by Imus, then Dasmarinas. This is due to the fact that those 3 cities are metropolitan areas, also their topography includes club, malls, and hotels. Also bisexual clans and dating gays are abundant among the said locations. This study shows that there is a significant relationship in the high risk behavior and lifestyle of the respondents with their socio-demographic profile. This can be correlated with developmental stages of the respondents as well as the social influences. Based on the findings and implications, a hygiene clinic that concerns the screening of HIV and other sexually transmitted disease to build in every cities in Cavite; There must be a strict monitoring of cases and high risk groups in order to easily disseminate and evaluate the conditions of the clients; a strategic group should be designated in every barangay for handling seminars regarding HIV, its prevention, management, and treatment; and An accessible treatment center shall be built for the convenience of HIV patients who lives in far-flung areas.
