Abstract: AGUILA, KRISTY JOY B. and OROGO, EI)DIEMER C. Relevance and Efficiency of Newsletter in Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Cavite State University, Indarig. Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Angenelle Anne T. Ambion The study was conducted to determine the relevance and efficiency of newsletter in Cavite State University. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the contents in the newsletter that are relevant to the target audience and to determine the efficiency of the newsletter as a communication tool. The study used descriptive method of research. Three sets of questionnaires were used in the study. The first set used convenience sampling technique wherein 110 participants were surveyed if they received newsletter, how often they received the newsletter in their respected college, and attached to the questionnaire were the ten general contents of a newsletter to identify the relevant contents in the newsletter. The second set used purposive sampling. Editors-in-Chief were asked to be interviewed by the researchers. Through the interview, the production and the distribution of the newsletter were determined. The researchers compared the first two questionnaires and the results included three colleges which were College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) and College of Criminal Justice which was not able to attain its relevance to their newsletter, based on its contents and frequency distribution. Lastly. the third set was the evaluation checklist. Researchers were responsible in checking the news in the newsletter if it complied with the six elements of news: timeliness, significance, prominence, proximity, oddity, and conflict. Through the evaluation checklist, researchers were able to determine the efficiency of the newsletter as a communication tool. The result showed that the three colleges were not able to attain the efficiency as a commutation tool of their newsletter. The newsletter should be distributed and provided hard copies for each target audience on time, for them to be well-informed. In choosing articles, writers should consider news that could stimulate the target audience's participation. The newsletter should be highly relevant to the target audience for them to participate in such upcoming events and programs. Lastly, the elements of the news must be always considered by the publication for conserving the worthiness of contents and for their newsletter to become efficient as a communication tool.
