Sombrio A study was conducted to determine the awareness, acceptance and importance of the No Smoking in Public Places Policy as perceived by the Cavite State University Community. Specifically, the purpose of the study sought to determine the demographic profile of the participants; determine the level of awareness, acceptance and importance of the no smoking in public places policy as to public places banned for smoking and penalties; and determine the significant relationship between demographic profile and the level of awareness, acceptance and importance of no smoking in public places policy. Descriptive method was used in this study and a self-made survey questionnaires were disseminated in data gathering. The participants were selected using multi stage sampling to obtain samples which were subdivided to target and randomly select the students, employees, concessioners and tricycle drivers of Cavite State University Community with a total number of 441 participants. The level of awareness as perceived by the participants on no smoking in public places policy as to ban places were highly aware that smoking was prohibited in center of youth activity. In spite of the awareness of the participants, they were "slightly unaware" to the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 and Clean Air Act of 1999. On the other hand, the level of awareness as to penalties on no smoking in public places revealed that the participants were "slightly unaware" on offenses for violation of no smoking policy. Regulation Act of 2003 because they were to some extent to information regarding the health risks associated with cigarette smoking and tobacco use. On the other hand, they were also "slightly accepted" the Clean Air Act of 1999 because air pollution cause harmful effect to our health and ozone layer. On the level of importance on no smoking policy as perceived by the participants, the implementation of the policy and penalty to students, faculty and visitors to smoke in the university were "very important". On this aspect the Cavite State University administrators with the assistance of Office of Student Affairs (OSA), they strictly monitored the implementation of no smoking policy; and any violation occurs reprimand was given. The perception of the participants towards the No Smoking Policy in Public Places as to Banned Areas and Penalties has a significant relationship. Therefore, age and sex was a factor that affects the behavior of an individual towards smoking habit. The researchers noticed that male adolescence was prone in deviant behavior like smoking habit and others such as intoxicated liquor and prohibited drugs involvement. Also, in adolescence stage, both female and male, were highly influence by their peer due to subculture. Once an individual joins a group of teenagers who was involved in smoking habit or any deviant activities, the subculture has been adopted and practice to become accepted by these group.
