Abstract: This study aimed primarily to determine the cost of production and marketing of flowering and ornamental plants in Cavite. This further aimed for the following objectives: 1} To determine the socio-economic characteristics of flowering and ornamental plant growers; 2) To determine some pre-sale practices; and 3) To determine some problems commonly met in the production and marketing of plants. This study was conducted in Silang and Tagaytay City from which 100 plant growers were selected by random sampling. Most of the growers surveyed started the business as a hobby. Their average age was 44.36 years with an average number of five dependents. They were able to reach only the intermediate level of schooling. of the 100 growers interviewed, only 47 percent were farmers. Others were employees, businessmen, carpenters, drivers, teachers and laborers. The average farm size devoted to flowering and ornamental plants was .54 ha. while the average pot number was 292. The average income derived from the said enterprise was P2,920 per annum. Their highest paid items as part of their farm expenses were pots and fertilizers. Growers reported repotting of plants as one of the pre-sale practices they have employed which demanded for high- er price. It was also reported that due to seasonal sale pat- tern, period of highest sale and greatest demand occurred during May, late October and December. This is because these are seasons for festive occasions as All Soul's Day, Christmas and Flores de Mayo. The problems commonly mentioned were lack of know- ledge in the control of pests and diseases and competition in the sale of the plants.
