The design project entitled "Bakas: A Proposed Cavite Canine Control, Welfare and Treatment Facility" was conducted from June 2015 to March 2016 under the supervision of Architect Elda Magna Guinto- Libut.
The study aimed to apply architectural programming on the design method to accomplish establishment of the site criteria, design criteria, design concept, for-m concept, design philosophy, and to design a facility that carries out most measures in addressing rabies prevention & control in collaboration with Provincial Veterinary Office as an annexation of the project.
The study intended to enhance rabies prevention and control, animal welfare and create awareness of people responsibility in participating to rabies prevention and control in Cavite considering the welfare of animals as a principle in the design. Furthermore, it aimed to; enhance humane dog population management; to promote responsible pet ownership; and enhance animal welfare through education.
From the data gathered by the researchers, the best site is located at Brgy. Osorio, Trece Martires, Cavite. The design recommendation: applied by the researcher in the study were: psychological implication in architectural design which communicates idea and encourages certain behaviors to be adopted humane implication in architectural design that responds to the welfare of the animals.
At the end of the study, the researchers was able to provide a site development plan, floor plans, elevations, sections, and perspective for architectural presentation. A scaled model was developed to show its actual appearance and could be served as reference for the students and faculty members of the university and province of Cavite for future development. The researchers documented and provided a manuscript of the design proposal.
