Abstract: CABASI, NICOLE PAULO R. and EGASAN, CHARLES PHILIP J. Design and Development of an Automated Honey Extractor for Stingless Bees. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016, Adviser: Ms. Emeline C. Guevarra. The design project was conducted to design and develop the Automated Honey Extractor for Stingless Bees. It specifically aimed to design and construct the microcontroller circuit of the device; develop an Arduino program in programming for the microcontroller of the device; design and construct the honey extractor; calibrate the photo interrupter sensor; evaluate and test the device; and conduct a cost computation. The system focused on extracting the honey from the hive of Meliponini or stingless bee which is the native kind of bee in the Philippines. The study was conducted to design and construct a honey extractor for stingless beehives to get honey through pressing with a given time that could be more efficient than manual process. The study also focused on the percentage or amount of the honey extraction using the system in shorter duration than the manual honey extraction. The LCD displayed the commands for choosing the time duration of the pressing. After selecting the duration, the turn table would operate clockwise aligning the set box to the presser and would stop after the photo-interrupter sensed the indicator. The stepper motor would slowly move down and pressed the hive to start the pressing duration displayed at the LCD together with the weight of honey extracted using a load cell module. Once done, the LCD would display task finished. VI The study was conducted at Cavite State University Main Campus, Indang Cavite from November 2015 up to last week of March 2016. Testing and evaluation were conducted at College of Information and Technology at Cavite State University on the first week of March 2016. Based on the gathered data, the automation of the extraction through the device proved to be an essential way of extraction in terms of the amount of honey harvested in short time duration. Moreover, since the device extracts honey faster than the manual method, good quality of honey was produced. The study encountered some limitations. After the set duration, as the presser retracted, the propolis stayed at spikes causing it to be transferred to the next box to be pressed. The total power consumption when the machine was idle and during its operation, it was measured 0.022kWh and 0.066kWh respectively. Based on the results of the evaluation, the system proved that it obtained all the objectives of the study. The cost of the honey extractor for stingless bees was Php 39,650.00
