Abstract: ZAFE JESSEL G. and SALAMATIN JENNY C. Backyard Swine Production at Esperanza, Ilaya:An Entrepreneurial Development Project (2016). Bachelor in Agricultural Entrepreneurship Major in Animal Production, College of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Natural Resources in Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, March 2016. Adviser: Dr. Cristina Olo, PhD. The project was conducted at Esperanza Ilaya, Alfonso, Cavite from November 17, 2015 to March 05, 2016. This project aimed to serve as an opportunity for the students to enhance their knowledge and skills in swine production through actual operation and management of a swine production enterprise; and to determine the profitability of swine raising and gain profit from the sale of hogs. The twelve heads of 2months-old piglets had an average initial body weight of 14.33 kg, weighed an average of 93.17 kg after 110 days of rearing. The total feed that has been consumed by the twelve hogs weighed 2,150 kgs or 43 sacks. The average gain in weighed was 71.83 kgs. Feeding of the pigs was done 3 times a day. At 7:00 AM, 1 1 AM in the morning and 5:00PM in the afternoon. On the first month, starter feeds were provided to the animals. This was gradually shifted to grower ration which was given to the animals on December 29 to February 27. Finisher ration was provided during the remaining period of fattening until March 05. After 110 days of growing, they reached an average body weight of 85 kilograms. The hogs hadan average Feed Conversion Efficiency (FOE) of 2.28and Average Daily Gain (ADG) of 0.713 kg per head.The project earned an income of P 3 1,312.00 from a gross sale of P 91,460.00 and a return of investment of 25.34%. The entrepreneurial project is quite beneficial because it helped the student entrepreneur to acquire more knowledge and experience in swine production. This project also taught the student entrepreneur to become more responsible.
