Abstract: AMPARO, JERICK L., DEL MUNDO, KENNETH R. AND TAKAHASHI, YUMI A. Production and Processing of Slicing Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). Bachelor of Agricultural Entrepreneurship, major in Crop Production, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Arnulfo C. Pascual, PhD. The project was established in Buna Cerca Indang, Cavite with a capital amounting to P 21,972.00. The project was implemented from October 2015 to February 2016. It aimed to enable student entrepreneurs to practice their skills and enhance their knowledge in the principles and practices of crop production; experience and understand the nature of work in the field of slicing cucumber production and processing enterprise through hands-on activities; and analyze the cost and return and profitability of the slicing cucumber production and processing. The project involved the production of one thousand (1,000) grown slicing cucumbers (var. Cucumis sativus) in an open area approximately 500 square meters (m ). Purchase of seeds and other materials, organic compost, fertilizers, plastic mulch, bamboos, seed trays, galvanized iron wire (number 12 and 18), and black twine. Purchase of materials, preparation of land, preparation of plots and mulches, and preparation of trellises are part of pre production activities done in slicing cucumber production. Preparation of holes, applying organic and inorganic fertilizer, planting, watering, weeding and making drainage holes were the main production activities done in slicing cucumber production. Harvesting of slicing cucumber was done 30 to 45 days after planting. Packaging and sorting was done immediately after harvest. The packed slicing cucumbers were sold at P 40.00 per kilogram at the public market of Trece Martires City, Indang, Silang and Cavite State University. Harvested fruits with deformities and slightly oversized were processed into juice. Cucumber juice was sold at an affordable price to CAFENR faculty and students which provided the students entrepreneurs an additional source of income from the project as reflected in the report. The cost of three-month operation of the production of slicing cucumber amounted to P21,972.00. A gross income of P 34,460.00 was realized after deducting the cost of production. Return on investment was computed at 56.84%. At the end of the project, the student entrepreneurs understood the relevance of the work. Managing a slicing cucumber production and processing enterprise is not that easy as thought before. The student entrepreneurs realized that in crop production business, it demands good management and knowledge pertaining to the crop of choice. Despite the problems encountered by the student entrepreneurs, they did not lose hope; instead they put a lot of effort and time to make their project successful.
