Abstract: BERNARDO, JEANEIL ANGELICA M. CABRAL, JOHN MHAR B. and TULABOT, CLAUDETTE B. Perception of Selected Residents in Indang, Cavite on the Prevalence of Crime. Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Criminology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2017. Adviser: Dr. Marissa C. Lontoc The study was conducted from January 2017 to April 2017 to determine the perception of the residents and local authorities on the prevalence of crime in Indang Cavite. Specifically, it determined the perception on the prevalence of crime in terms of fear of crime and media exposure and other sources of information; determined the safety measures of the residents and local authorities; and identified the significant difference between the safety measures of selected residents and local authorities. Descriptive method of research was utilized in this study to describe the participants on the prevalence of crime as well as their safety measures. The participants of the study were 300 selected residents and 60 local authorities from the four selected barangays. Self-made survey questionnaire was used as the main gathering tool of this study. The findings imply most of the residents and the local authorities perceived fear of crime through television programs. Most of the residents feared to be a victim of crime and as they perceived the prevalence of crime, safety measures were made such as using physical security on homes. Moreover, local authorities were worried about the safety of their family rather than their selves. For the safety of their family, they have implemented safety measures such as conducting regular meetings to discuss the security given to the community. Thus, it is recommended for the local authorities to raise awareness of home and community safety measures through education and promotion. They must further enhance the community meetings to reduce the fear of crime.
