Abstract: NUESTRO, REVELYN ALAS, "The Impact of Practical Skills Development on the Income of Out-of-School Youths in Indang", B.S. Thesis, Agricultural Economics. Don Severino Agricultural College, April 1989. Adviser: Miss Cecilia V. Telmo. This study was conducted in fourteen barangays of Indang to determine a) the out-of-school youths who have undergone PSD training and who are employed; b) the socio-economic characteristics of out-of-school youths, c) the income of out-of-school youths before and after the PSD training, d) the relationship of PSD training to the income of out-of-school youths, and some socio- economic characteristics of the respondents, e) and the problems encountered by the out-of-school youths of Indang. A total of fifty out-of-school youths were used as respondents. Majority of the respondents were fe- male, with an average age of 21 years old, and were the eldest child in the family. Most of them were high school graduates. The average annual income of the head of the family was P800.00 monthly. The out-of-school youths were enrolled in three vocational training namely: Welding, highspeed sewing and cosmetology. More than half of the respondents were trained in high-speed sewing. There were only few respondents who were trained in cosmetology and welding. It was found that the income of respondents increased after the PSD training because most of them were able to have jobs which were provided by the agency and consequently, increasing their sources of income. The income of out-of-school youth has no relationship to PSD training, but there was impact of PSD training to the income because after the skill training, most of them got jobs and their income increased. Results of the Chi-square test showed that the age, educational attainment, and sex of the respondents were associated with the PSD training program. The most common problems encountered by the respondents were lack of financial support, inadequate tools, and facilities during training programs and low- income derived from employment.
