Abstract: ANGCAO, FLORENCE MARIEL M. and DEL ROSARIO, VEENUZ MARGARETTE C., Development of Inventory Management System and Application for Construction Supplies. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University. Indang, Cavite. May 2018. Adviser: Dr. Willie C. Buclatin. Inventory management is the monitoring of the ordering, storage and use of components that an organization will use and an overseeing and controlling of quantities of finished products for sale. Construction supplies shop is a small-scale business that distributes construction supplies in the community, wherein construction materials constitute a major portion in the residential and even more in the construction industry. Growing technology needs a system that can monitor construction supplies for inventory control so that the community needs can be met. Construction supplies shop grows eloquently in its field, though as of present, its inventory is still manually managed. Various problems in the existing sales and inventory system that has been due to the use of manual system could not be eliminated in a shop. In order to address the problem, the study aimed to develop an inventory management system and application for construction supplies. A developmental research was used in conducting the study. Moreover, DMADV (Define-Measure-Analyze-Design-Verify) was used as the research method. The primary source of data was the construction supplies shops and its staffs were the participants of the study. In determining the number of the participants in the study, Slovin's formula and stratified random sampling were used. After using the Slovin's formula, it was shown that the 158 construction supplies shop staffs were total number participants. Based on the results of the study, it was shown that several problems existed in using manual operations in the construction supplies shop. This includes the inconsistent data entry, errors, discrepancy between the records and actual inventory count, inaccuracy of sales, difficulty in retrieving data, time consuming recording of data, inability to generate reports, difficulty in producing duplicate copy of the records, difficulty in monitoring the daily count inventories, occurrence of shortage, ease of access of data, late placement of delivery order, irregularity of owner's visit to the shop, and occurrence of loss of records. After identifying the existing problems in the construction supplies shops, the inventory management system and application was developed in accordance with the critical points wherein the problem existed mostly. The system was evaluated in terms of its functionality, reliability, efficiency and usability. It was given an excellent satisfaction by the users. For the further improvement of the inventory management system, the researchers recommend to: provide additional features that might help more in managing the inventories as well as the sales; consider converting the system into a mobile application; and for further studies, the future researchers may also focus on different areas to which the inventory management system might be useful too.
