Abstract: ALONZO, MARY ROSE S., MOJICA, MARJORIE MICHELLE R., VENTILLO, VERNON Q. "EFFECT OF ALOE VERA (Aloe barbadensis Miller) IN REDUCING THE BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL OF HYPERGLYCEMIC RATS." Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, College of Nursing, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2012. Adviser Dr. Adelaida E. Sangalang. The study entitled "Effect of Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) in Reducing the Blood Glucose Level of Hyperglycemic Rats" was conducted at the Department of Medical Technology, College of Nursing, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite from May to June 2012. It aimed to prove that Aloe vera can lower rat blood glucose level and to identify which among the three Aloe vera preparations namely boiled Moe vera leaves, boiled Aloe vera gel and blended Aloe vera gel would be most effective in reducing the blood glucose level of hyperglycemic rats. Twelve female rats (Rattus norvegicus), approximately five months old, and weighing 240 to 250 grams were used in the study. The rats were divided into four treatments namely Treatment 1, no administration of Moe vera; Treatment 2, 2 mL of boiled Aloe vera leaves; Treatment 3, 2 mL of boiled Aloe vera gel; and Treatment 4, 2 mL of blended Aloe vera gel. Results showed that all treatments could reduce the blood glucose level of the hyperglycemic rats on the 11th day treatment and on the 21st day of treatment. The suggested preparation is boiled Aloe vera gel since it showed the best result. The boiled Aloe vera leaves was as effective (P>0.05) and could also be efficiently used for reducing the blood glucose level of hyperglycemic rats.
