Abstract: ANACAY, RHONEIL P. Production and Price Behavior of Coconut in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, October 2013. Adviser: Dr. Maria A. Ersando. The study was conducted to provide information on the production and farmgate prices of coconut in the province of Cavite from 2002 to 2011. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the area planted to coconut; volume of production; annual farmgate prices of coconut; trends in the area planted to coconut, volume of production and farmgate prices; as well as monthly price behavior of farmgate prices of coconut and the periods of high and low farmgate prices of coconut in Cavite. The average area planted to coconut increased at an average growth rate of 0.86 percent from 2002 to 2011. During the first few years, increases in the area planted were noted. Starting 2004, however, the area planted to coconut has been stable. It was observed that the area planted to coconut from 2002 to 2011 was highest in District VII which averaged to 11,587.41 ha. The volume of coconut production experienced both increasing and decreasing trends from 2002 to 2011. It increased in 2011 and reached 40,322 metric tons, the highest volume of coconut production noted in the ten-year period under study. Production of coconut was observed to be highest in District VII which averaged to 33,851.87 metric tons from 2002 to 2011. During the period under study, the annual farmgate price of coconut had both upward and downward movement with an average growth rate of 13.82 percent. The farmgate price was highest in 2011 at PhP 7.03 per unit and lowest in 2002 at PhP 2.56 per unit. The area planted to coconut during the study period had an increasing trend. Similarly, there was an increasing trend in the volume of coconut production. The annual farmgate prices of coconut assumed the same increasing trend. Based on the ratio-to-moving average, the farmgate price of coconut in Cavite was relatively high in the months of January to June with the highest observed in the month of May at a price index of 111.41. On the other hand, farmgate price was relatively low in the months of July to December with the lowest price observed in the month of September at a price index of 84.44.
