Abstract: CUENCA, ADRIAN C. Backyard Swine Production in Brgy. Lumipa, Gen, Emilio Aguinaldo: An Entrepreneurial Development Project. Bachelor in Agricultural Entrepreneurship major in Animal Production. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2018 Adviser: Dr. Mariedel L. Autriz The entrepreneurial development project was conducted to apply skills in swine production enterprise, enhance managerial and practical skills in swine raising and determine the profitability of raising pigs. Four weanlings with an average initial weight of 17.5 kilograms were bought from a local piggery farm at Barangay Palocpoc, Mendez, Cavite. The pigs were fed three times a day for two months then fed two times a day until market date. The entrepreneur encountered two major problems in conducting this project. One was the unavailability of stocks due to high demand and the other one was during the first week of production when two of the stocks showed some symptoms of pneumonia like severe coughing, thumping, and scouring. Herbal medicines were given in their drinking water for initial treatment until powdered medicines were available. After 85 days of production, hogs weighed an average of 82 kg final body weight, with 758.82 grams of average daily gain, feed consumption of 137.71 kg and feed conversion efficiency of 2.14. The hogs were sold at ₱125.00 per kilo live weight basis. The gross sales of hogs and empty sacks amounted to ₱41,110.00 and the total expenses incurred in completing this project amounted to ₱31,718.82, thus resulting to a net income of ₱9,391.18 and 29.61% return of investment. Although the entrepreneur encountered problems during the early stage of production, the entrepreneurial development project was still successful and profitable and more importantly, the author was able to apply proper management practices and skills learned from the university.
