The study "Problems and Training Needs of Upland Farmers in Some Selected Barrios of Indang" was conducted in chosen barrios namely: Alulod, Agus-os, Carasuchi, Lumampong and Mahabang Kahoy from July to September 1989. This study was conducted to determine problems and train-ing needs of farmers in some selected barrios of Indang as basis of formulation of Extension programs through personal interview. A total of 133 farmer-respondents, 19 from Alulod, 22 from Agus-os, 40 from Carasuchi, 21 from Lumampong and 31 from Ma. Kahoy were interviewed. The respondents were selected by simple random sampling. Results showed that the mean age of the respondents was 55 years. Majority of the respondents were males and married. Most of the j respondents were able to obtain elementary level,,of education. The average number of dependents, number of years in farming, size of farm being tilled, and approximate gross income per year of the farmers were 3d years, 1.96 hectares and 018,585.51 respectively. Majority of the farmers were owner-operators. Among the problems encountered by the farmers, the following were the most serious: occurrence of typhoons that reduced almost half of their income, occurrence of animal diseases, difficulty in obtaining needed fertilizers due to lack of capital or money to buy, low prices of their farm products and lack of contact with extensionmen. Majority of the respondents had not experienced at-tending any training programs, thus they needed trainings on insect-pest control, proper production of animals, availing inputs and minimizing cost of production, sell-ing farm products at desired price, subscription of read-ing materials and agrarian reform. Crop production was the most frequently mentioned area of training which the farmer think they needed most. Some of the aspirations in life of the respondents are as follows: to provide their children better education and better future, to become well to do, to increase production hence increased income gad to live in a balanced life.
