Abstract: GATPANDAN, OSCAR HERMOSO. Don Sovorino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, April 1991. "DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A SURFACE RUNOFF COLLECTOR." Adviser: Engr. David L. Cero. The study "Design and Construction of a Surface Runoff Collector," was conducted at Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite from November 1990 to March 1991. It aimed to provide supplemental water supply for the crops and to reduce the sediments or foreign materials entering into the reservoir. The surface runoff collector of three main parts: the rectangular reservoir or the collector itself, the filter and the frame cover which serves as the trapping agent against the sediments and foreign materials carried by the runoff water. Significant result was obtained in terms of the reduction in the amount of sediment yield. Results showed that the filter and the frame cover attached to the collector greatly affects the reduction of the amount of sediments This has a value of 2.736 kg/c11:2 and 1.642 mcz respectively. On the other hand, a value of 6.192 kdi'm and 4.896 kg/m of sediments were obtained on the installed can without the filter. The cost of the collector is V471.60. It was composed of the materials that are readily available at the least cost. Low cost of the collector implies that it is more economical to use and it is affordable even for small farmers.
