Abstract: CATURAY, GIANNE LIANI V. BACKYARD HOG FATTENING IN CALUMPANG CERCA, INDANG, CAVITE: AN ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT, Bachelor in Agricultural Entrepreneurship Major in Animal Production. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. Adviser Henry I. Rivero MSc. EDP 2018-060 The project was conducted within a period of 93 days. The pig pen located at Calumpang Cerca, Indang, Cavite was prepared by cleaning with detergent and clean water and was infected the day after the cleaning. The stocks were bought from Cathy Farm in Sabang Naic, Cavite with complete vaccination. The piglets were commercial feeds from Caffmaco beginning with Starter pellets for 37 days. On the grower phase, shifting to Sunjin Grower pellets was done up the day before marketing or the 92nd day. Vitamin B-Complex and antibiotics were provided as needed during the production period. The finished stocks were sold in two ways, as live weight (one head) and as dressed weight (three heads). Raising backyard hogs was a challenging yet worthy experience. Experiences such as interacting with the hogs and looking after them all resulted to acquired skills and additional knowledge in raising hogs more efficiently. The hogs reached the target weight of 95kg on live weight and 80kg, 74kg and 72kg dressed weighs, with a net income of ₱8, 628,23 (ROI of 22.85%) making the project a successful one. The conduct of backyard hog raising was proven to be effective business. It requires much time and attention from the student but was worth it. The projected activities are necessary before engaging into this business or project. The student entrepreneur recommends wisely and carefully chosen stocks and feed brand. Maintain the cleanliness of stocks’ and never neglect drinking water. Awareness of the surroundings and proper record keeping were a key to better hog performance. The student entrepreneur also reminds the future student entrepreneurs to always healthy because the health of the caretaker can affect the condition of the stocks.
