Abstract: GARCIA, MEN JESSICA G. Backyard Hog Fattening Enterprise in Kayquit, Indang, Cavite: An Entrepreneurial Development Project. Bachelor in Agricultural Entrepreneurship major in Animal Production, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2018. Adviser: Mariedel L. Autriz, PhD. This project was conducted in Brgy Kayquit I, Indang Cavite. It was conducted from December 26, 2017 to April 21, 2018. The project lasted for 101 days. The project aimed to develop and/or improve the capabilities of students in engaging in backyard hog fattening enterprise; apply their knowledge and skills in backyard hog fattening production; and earn profit from backyard hog fattening enterprise. The swine raising enterprise used five weanlings with an average weight of 12.2 kg. The student entrepreneur started in the pre starter phase. The brand of feeds used in pre starter and starter phase were the same. During the grower phase, the student entrepreneur shifted to different feeds for quality reasons. The feeds were bought from Indang town Plaza. They were fed three times a day, in the morning at 7:00 AM then 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM in the afternoon. The student entrepreneur followed restricted feeding to avoid wasted feeds. Shifting of feeds was done gradually to prevent stress for the hogs. This project engaged in different operations including the preparation of housing and equipment, purchase of stocks, health and sanitation, feeding management and marketing. A total of P42, 071.29 was used in buying of stocks, medicines and other expenses in the operation. The said business got a net income of P6, 648.71 giving a return of investment (ROI) of 15.80%.
