Abstract: BALITBIT, JULIUS RAY N. Analysis of Occupational Health and Safety Management System in Cavite State University - Main Campus. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Engr. Gerry M. Castillo. Universities and colleges are meant to deliver education which is considered as a core objective of such institutions. Risks related to OHS may weaken the aims and objectives of universities. Implementing safety and health policies in the workplace should not only be confined to industries but should also be taken into consideration by educational institutions, specifically the state higher education institutions. Teachers play an important role in the educational process. Their effectiveness in teaching constitutes much in the acquisition of knowledge, the development of skill, and the enhancement of the talents of the students under their supervision. However, when teachers are ill they cannot guide and direct the needs of students toward the development of their attitudes and appreciation of learning. Truly, the maintenance of a healthy workplace is necessary for securing the health and safety of the teachers for the efficient and effective delivery of service. The teaching profession in the Philippines needs great concern among school officials and educators while acknowledging the fact that all professions have their own challenges and sources of occupational illnesses. The rapid and profound changes in many aspects of the education in our society warrant a closer look at occupational safety and health of teachers in our country. The study aimed to analyze the effect of occupational health and safety management system in Cavite State University. Specifically, the researcher aimed to determine the demographic profile of the faculty members and students in terms of: gender, civil status, age, years in service and/or year and section; measure the level of awareness of the respondents toward health and safety; measure the level of satisfaction of the respondents toward health and safety management; measure the level of satisfaction of the respondents based on what their organization behave toward health and safety. Furthermore, the study involved 391 randomly selected respondents of students and 58 randomly selected respondents of permanent faculty members. The study employed the quantitative research design which utilized the descriptive statistics such as mean, median and mode to analyze the data. The respondents' age is between the age group 20-40. Most of the respondents are female, single, and has 1 to 10 years in service as employees. For the students, most of them are male, single, first year to fifth year in students. In terms of the level of satisfaction, 63.7 percent of the respondents were satisfied on health and safety and 58.2 percent of respondents were satisfied on health and safety management system, while 60 percent of the respondents were moderately satisfied on organization performance toward OSHMS. Significant activities that are related to level of respondents' awareness and satisfaction were identified such as overall knowledge on safety and health, work-related hazards, involvement on occupational health and safety management system policies and regulations and concerns on student-employees safety and well-being.
