Abstract: BAYBAY, WIMSEY KAYE R. and ESGITERRA, MARK ANTHONY B. Examination of Prison Environment: An Analysis of Inmates Concerns in Safety and Health. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Engr. Gerry M. Castillo. This study aimed to analyze the health and safety concerns of the inmates at Cavite Provincial Jail. Specifically, this study attempted to: (a) identify the demographic profile of the inmates; (b) determine the health and safety condition of the inmates in Cavite Provincial Jail; (c) identify any inadequacies in the jail management's health and safety measures; and (d) assess the compliance of the jail management to the safety and health practices of the inmates. The participants of the study were two hundred eighty-four (284) selected inmates. The survey questionnaire was employed and given to the participants personally to gather the needed data. Statistical methods such as percentage, weighted mean and standard deviation were used to analyzed the data. Two hundred fifty participants (88.03%) were male while thirty-four participants (11.97%) were female. Ninety-six participants (33.80%) belonged to the age group of 37 to 45 years old, eighty-seven participants (30.63%) belonged to the age group of 28 to 36 years old, fifty-eight (20.42%) belonged to 46 to 54 years old, and forty-three participants (15.14%) belonged to 19 to 27 years old. The study determined the prison environment concerns of the inmates of Cavite Provincial Jail. These were infrastructure, activities, health and sanitation, and safety and security. Moreover, this study identified the inadequacies of the jail management — sleeping and hygienic concerns, counseling services, food and water services, sanitation medical checkups, and health actions, insufficient staff, group or gangs, including fights and security.
