April, 1992. Adviser: Dr. Alice T. Valeria. This study was conducted to come up with a more comprehensive demographic and socio-economic profiles of Indang, Cavite. The study used secondary data which were gathered from the National Statistic Office (NSO)). Based on the 1990 census on Population and Housing, the municipality of Indang registered a total population of 39,25'4. Barangay Kayquit had the highest population among the 30 registered barangays. The ratio of male and female population showed that males dominated females by 0.01 percent (1.01:1 is the average .sex ratio). Majority of the residents were 15 years old and over which constituted 57.79 percent of the total population. The highest literacy rate was 89 percent which WAS registered in 1980. In the same year, 45-84 percent of the population were registered as single, 47.89 percent were married, 4.6 percent were widowed and 1.7 percent were divorced/separated. Majority of the population were Roman Catholic. More than one-half of the population (57.27 7.) were engaged in farming and other related works. Population who are economically active registered a total employment of 6,772 and a total unemployment of 867. For not economically active, housekeeper totalled to 5,149 while 1,148 were students Majority of the populace resides in rural areas Of the literacy level, literate male population is higher than the literate female population due perhaps to the higher priority given to the male population to take formal education. It is projected that the population of the town in the next ten years will increase at an average growth rate of 4.1 percent which is higher than the national figure of 2.5 percent. To counteract the rapid population growth not only in the local area but also in the whole region, the Local Government Units must strengthen population campaign that will regulate the growth rat-v., population. of the Moreover, a separate budget must be Allocated by the LGU's to come-up with a more detailed census of the town.
