Sangalang The experiment was conducted at Sakholnakhon Sericulture Experiment Station in Thailand, from May 23, 1990 to February 7, 1991. The objectives of the experiment were to study floral biology, pollen storage and viability, and crossability of different mulberry clones. Seven clones of mulberry; ‘Noi’, “Harngchang’, ‘Los Banos’, ‘Batac’, “Pai”, “No. 44° and ‘S54° were used as parental clones. 51x clones (‘’Noi’, ‘Harngchang, ‘“Batac’, “Pai’, “No. 44° and ‘$54°) are wunisexual while ‘Los Bafios’ is bisexual. Of these clones, ‘Noi’, ‘Harngchang’ and ‘Los Banos were male clones while ‘Los Bajios’, ‘Batac’, “Pai’, “No 44° and °S54’° were female clones. Pollen viability of three male clones was. Tested. There were highly significant differences among clones, Storage durations and their interactions. Hybridization among the above clones were conducted. Twelve (12) crosses were successful which include one selfed (Los Banos x Los Banos’); nine of which were produced using cuttings of female parents and the rest using the original trees. As regard to the crossability of some clones of mulberry, "Noi’ as a male and °S54° as a female parent had the highest crossability. There were high correlations among reproductive characters. With regard to the performances (height, girth, and Size of leaf) of Fy progenies both in the nursery and in the field, Fy progenies of ‘Harngchang’ as the male parent and "554° as the female parent performed well in both locations. However, considering other characteristics of the specific crosses, that of ‘Noi x S54’ performed well in the field. There was a strong correlation between nursery characters’ and field characters. It was also found that “Harngchang’ annd °S54° as the male and female parents, respectively had good general combining ability. Heritability of some characters (plant height, girth of stem and size of leaf) were relatively high. Individual plant selection was done based on vegetative and chemical properties; only three F, progenies were selected from the cross ‘S54 x Noi’. ‘Selections No. 1, 4 and 5° were considered as the most potential clones for commercial production if they still perform well in the future evaluation.
